OKLAHOMA CITY – No one should have to live without cool air this summer.

Thursday, there was another big boost to our Fans 4 Oklahomans campaign.

Our In Your Corner team was on hand for the graduation of the 61st Oklahoma Highway Patrol Academy. Cadets didn’t arrive empty-handed.

DPS commissioner, Mike Thompson, came up with an idea to challenge cadets and their families to give back.

“He said, ‘Let’s do a fan drive for needy Oklahomans,’” OHP spokesperson Trooper Betsy Randolph said. “I thought it was great. Of course the first person I thought of was Scott Hines and News Channel 4.”

Top cadet, Kyle Johnson, was happy to help.

“That’s the Oklahoma way,” Johnson said. “That’s how I was raised. That’s how I was taught.”

For cadets to become troopers, a servant’s heart is a must.

“They do so much to keep us safe and then also to keep us cool,” Salvation Army spokesperson, Jeanean Castle said. “So we have to applaud their efforts.”

In all, cadets and their families donated nearly 172 new fans to the Salvation Army.

Senior citizens 62 and older, families with infants under 6 months old and the disabled all qualify to get a fan while they are available.

Scott Hines and the In Your Corner team will be collecting fans to donate to the program.
