MUSKOGEE, Okla. – A former assistant wrestling coach in Muskogee is charged with second degree rape and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

According to KJRH, 21-year-old Hugo Artega resigned as the Muskogee High assistant wrestling coach on January 20.

The former coach claims his relationship with a 17-year-old student was consensual.

Artega told KJRH that he started dating the teen in early December after meeting through the wrestling program.

“It wasn’t rape. She was in the right mind to do it with me. Her dad didn’t want to file any charges against me. It was all fine between me and her family,” he said.

According to court documents, Artega gave the 17-year-old girl alcohol on one occasion and had sexual intercourse with her twice.

The girl told KJRH that “she is in love with him” and the “two were in a real relationship.”

After allegations about Artega surfaced, he was asked to leave the school and never return.

The 21-year-old is out on $10,000 bond, waiting for his February 19 court date.  He is reportedly not allowed to talk to or see his alleged girlfriend.
