The National Executive Board voted to lift the ban, which was passed by 79 percent, according to the Boy Scouts of America.
The resolution is effective immediately.
“Chartered organizations will continue to select their adult leaders and religious chartered organizations may continue to use religious beliefs as criteria for selecting adult leaders, including matters of sexuality,” a press release from the Boy Scouts reads.
National President of the Boy Scouts of America Dr. Robert M. Gates spoke about the policy change.
